Blessing’s voice was warm. “Hello, Suchin.” She put a thin jewellery case on Sīd’s lap. “Put that on and we can speak.”

Sīd stared at the box. Blessing’s smile lost none of its vivacity.

“Do it, and we can talk. Otherwise, I’ll be on my way.”

She opened the case to find a pewter bracelet with crude angular seals. A 9v battery was wired onto the bottom.

<<It’s alright. Nothing that can do will kill me.>>

True, but I can’t imagine it’ll be pleasant.

“This won’t do anything permanent?” Sīd turned the bracelet over. “It’s fairly crude.”
